I've been making video reviews of my collection, where I ramble about what I like and/or dislike about a given item in my collection. I have been meaning to post them here too, for the fun of it. And now I'm finally getting around to doing so.

Pic of the Day 123 - Star Wars Week
Shadow Stormtrooper, .45 scale Mini Helmet, by Master Replicas.
I love the mini helmet line that Master Replicas started right before they lost the Star Wars license. The scale was perfect for me, not nearly as large and bulky (and expensive) as the full scale helmet replicas, they fit on any shelf, and are still plenty large to allow lots of detailing and heft to them. Unfortunately, they only made around 9 or 10 of them before they failed to renew the Star Wars license, so there are several helmets I would have liked to see, that we never got, like Jango Fett's or an Episode II Clone trooper, a TIE Fighter Pilot or AT-AT Driver. Speaking of the TIE Fighter Pilot helmet, it was in the works, and would have been one of the next helmets released. Curiously, a company by the name of Riddell had the license for mini helmets serveral years ago, they released four, and then canceled the line. The next helmet due to be released, already in production but never fully completed, was the TIE Fighter Pilot.

Pic of the Day 87 - Twice Daily!
Commander Cody, Gentle Giant mini bust
Cody and his troops, the 212th Battlion (I think) were attached to Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Clone Wars, until Order 66 was given while at Utapau, and Cody tried to kill Obi-wan, friendship notwithstanding.
This mini bust is one of five busts, Gentle Giant is infamous for. They decided to release 5 highly desired, specific characters (as opposed to generic clone troopers) as 5 exclusives, throughout the world, in the summer of 2007. The Five Commanders were Bly (at Forbidden Planet, London), Bacara (Baltimore Comic Con), Cody (San Diego Comic Con), Gree (Gen Con, Indianapolis?) and finally, Neyo, at a store in Japan. In addition to making them difficult to obtain, GG decided not to make equal numbers of them. There are far more people that have Cody (the most numerous of the Five) than have Neyo (the most limited). And, due to the difficulty in obtaining them, it is doubtfull that the 1500 people that have Neyo, have the other five. I was able to acquire four of the Five, but Neyo eluded me at retail price (GG raffled off a small number of each on their site) and the $300+ it goes for on eBay is out of my price range, and will be for many years to come.
There was a lot of outrage at the whole stunt, and Gentle Giant basically told the collectors that they didn't give a damn what we thought. However, they didn't repeat the stunt in 2008, but this year they seem to be doing it again, with the Republic Commandos, the four characters from a fairly successful video game. They are still available all over the world, but at least this time in equal numbers. Entertainment Earth currently has them available for preorder, for $85 each, plus shipping, and I believe a limited number will be available at GG's site again, for $65 each. Due to the collecting budget cuts I took in late 2007, I will be unable to get any of these at this time. At least I was able to get the limited maquette they did in early 2007.

This mini bust is one of five exclusive Clone Commander mini busts that Gentle Giant released in 2007. I'm over it, but at the time there was a lot of hard feelings towards Gentle Giant from the fans, for releasing five highly desired characters (you know, the only clones with actual identities in the film) as exclusive items in much more limited numbers than other mini busts at the time. This one was only sold at Baltimore Comic Con, Bly was available at Forbidden Planet, a store in London, Cody was at San Diego Comic Con, Gree at Star Wars Celebration IV, and the one that garnered the most ire from the fans, Commander Neyo was only available at Blister in Tokyo, and it the smallest numbers. Only 1500 collectors at most could have a complete set, but it seems likely to me that not every one of those 1500 got the other four. I have all but Neyo, and hope to get him some day, but from the beginning he got Shadow Stormtrooper and Boba Fett mini bust prices on eBay (meaning over $300), so it's going to be one of the last items (along with Boba and the Shadow Stormy busts) that I get.

Sandtrooper Sergeant Deluxe Mini Bust by Gentle Giant
As great as the Stormtrooper design is, I prefer the additions the sandtroopers got. This is one of three Sandtrooper busts Gentle Giant released. The second is the Squad Leader, with an orange pauldron instead of white, and a con exclusive Corporal with a black pauldron. The Squad Leader and Sergeant are Deluxe Mini Busts, with interchangeable arms to allow variety in the poses. They're identical except for one arm - the Sergeant with the droid piece as pictured here, and the Squad Leader with the super extra large gun that some of them carried. I'm sure I'll put up a picture of it someday.

Pic of the Day 28 - Star Wars Week 2 - Sith and Clones
Clone Commander, 3-3/4 inch figure by Hasbro.
This is the clone trooper that started it all. I think. Probably. Either this one or the green variant. It's from the 2005 Revenge of the Sith line, and is what really got me on the path of serious collecting. When I realized Hasbro was going to make all the clone variations that we saw in the film, I knew I was doomed. And I loved it.
This has always been one of my favorite clone designs. I love the targeting visor, the skirt with holsters and twin blaster pistols. Plus in this case, red deco, awesome.
Remember Kids: Surrender is a perfectly acceptable alternative in extreme circumstances!
